Diorshow Blackout Waterproof Mascara

You know when you find a product that you love so you never end up trying anything else? Yeah, me too. Maybelline's Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length waterproof mascara has been my bread and butter for at least five years now. Yes, you read correctly, five years. Nothing else comes close to Lash Stiletto and in my opinion it deserves 100% more recognition than its gotten...but thats another blog for another time. Because I've been using the same mascara for so long, I decided it was time to branch out and try some new products!

Diorshow is certainly nothing new on the market, but it's received quite the acclaim over the years. Naturally, I decided to give it a shot! I'm very particular with how my mascara looks and personally I prefer a lengthened and separated look over a "clumpy" volumized look. My eyes tend to water throughout the day so a good waterproof formula is very important to me. At the Dior counter I noticed there were only a few waterproof mascaras, so that narrowed down my options for me. The traditional Diorshow, Iconic, and Overcurl all have very large applicators which I'm not a fan of. In the past, wands of this magnitude have never worked for my eye shape and they aren't geared for the look that I prefer. The only mascara that seemed to suit my taste was the Diorshow Blackout mascara, thus here we are now!

This mascara comes at a hefty price point ($28) so if you are on a budget, skip it. There are other Dior products that I consider "must haves" that I'd suggest before this one. That being said, if you're in the market for a high end mascara this ones pretty good.

The first thing you'll notice is the gorgeous packaging, definitely worthy of displaying atop a vanity. As far as application goes, I found it to be a bit cumbersome. Even though the application wand on the Diorshow Blackout is smaller than the other Dior mascaras, its much larger than what I'm used to. Its not impossible to work with, there's just a learning curve. Considering I have very straight lashes, curling is a must before applying mascara. Diorshow Blackout did a pretty good job of holding the curl, but my lashes did fall throughout the day. The brush did a nice job of separating my lashes, but can easily clump your lashes together if you apply more than one coat. I did notice it to lengthen my lashes a bit, but definitly not like fiber mascaras (not that I necessarily expected it to). As far as the formulation goes, this waterproof mascara doesn't flake throughout the day like a lot of mascaras do, but it unfortunately had somewhat of a tacky feel on my lashes. I know some people prefer this type of formula, but I found myself picking and pulling at my lashes due to the strange texture. I also noticed that this mascara transferred onto my cheekbones if I laughed a lot, or if I'd been squinting in the sun, so that was somewhat of a bummer.

Overall, I don't love this mascara, but I don't hate it. As a product, I think it is good and I know it suits a lot of people! As for me, it's not quite to my taste. I still love Dior and will continue buying the products I love, as well as trying new things; I just won't pick up this mascara again. As for now, I'm still on the hunt for another great mascara and I'd love your feedback! Let me know what your favorite mascara is, or tell me about your experience with Dior mascaras.

NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

By God they've done it again! For the New Year, NARS released a new foundation, All Day Luminous Weightless, and its created quite the stir among the beauty community! I've been wearing this foundation for a few weeks now and I have to say this ish is good!

The product sits really well on the skin and is incredibly soft and natural looking. It is truly weightless, as the name suggests, and sets more like a powder or airbrush foundation, as opposed to a liquid formula. The finish of this foundation actually reminds me a lot of my Dior Airflash. It doesn't settle into fine lines or exaggerate pores, it genuinely just gives you a flawless complexion *Beyoncé hair flip*.

All Day Luminous is geared more toward oily/combination/normal skin, it doesn't play well with dry skin. Because this formula is very fluid and dries quickly, it definitely likes to cling to dry patches. I've tried mixing the foundation with a moisturizer and found that helped a bit, but if you have truly dry skin, I think Sheer Glow would better suit your skin type. As far as coverage goes, I would say this is somewhere between medium and full coverage, as I still have to cover blemishes with a dab of concealer (not a deal-breaker, ladies).

They say that one pump is enough to cover your entire face, but I didn't find that to be the case. For one decent layer, two pumps should be plenty of product. I've tried applying this foundation both with my fingers and with a buffing brush; both look great but I think fingers will give you the most natural finish.

In case you're interested, my favorite brush for applying liquid foundation is Sephora's Classic Multitask Brush (#45). All in all, All Day Luminous is a great addition to any beauty arsenal.
